Works In Progress

It's been so busy around here I'm surprised I don't jump in the shower with my bra on!  My visual journal is coming along.  I have a few more blank pages to fill.  Once it slows down I plan to revive my Youtube channel again and post videos there.  I get so dang nervous about being on video it makes me crazy.  I keep telling myself I can do it!

Who knows if I'm done with this page or not.  As you can see I have a bunch of layers goin' already.

I started sketching a girl for my 100 painted faces challenge.  She is a fish/mermaid hybrid.  Can't wait to get her painted because I plan to give her a tribal vibe.

Here are a few postcards I'm working on for my ETSY store.  I'm torn about weather or not I should seal/varnish these or not.  They seem to be more durable sealed but I hate the glossy finish.  Any suggestions??  I've tried matte medium but it's makes it sorta sticky.

These mini-tag girlies will allow me to reach my goal of 100 faces by the end of December.  I will keep them simple and try not to over do it. (Yeah right!)

I really appreciate all the love I received on last week's post!!!  I'm still working on replies.  Make sure you follow my blog to see every post.  My family doesn't always get this thug art life we live so we gotta stick together!

I love visiting your blogs!  So, please leave me a comment if you can, I love hearing your feedback.

100 Painted Faces - #2

Um....to say I went 10 rounds with this painting is an understatement.  For painted face no. 2, I just went around and around in circles.  In the past, when this happened I would give up and walk away. Shove the canvas in a drawer so I didn't have to look at it.

I took a bunch of progress photos along the way and was doing fine until I decided to add more layers.  I don't like when you can see through to the canvas.  But all of a sudden she turned into mud and I know what happened.

1.  I was tired.
2.  Because I was tired I wasn't actually mixing colors.
3.  I didn't pay attention to where my colors were going.
4.  I was trying to force it.

I decided to stop painting, set it a side, and then
start again the next day.

Maybe sometimes I fear if I mess up I won't
be able to find my way back again.

I found my way back.  Each step wasn't perfect but I got there.  She sat for about 3 days before I actually started again.

I would like to recommend the podcast I've been listening to while I paint.  It's called the Sarah Bagley Podcast...she is a recovering perfectionist and her podcast has really helped me push past my need for perfection.  I will give it my best shot and be okay with that.

Do you feel me?  What do you do when you get stuck in a project?  What do you think about her purple highlights?  If you like this please feel free to share this post with your friends!

How To Create a Mixed Media Tag - Online Art Class

Today I'm happy to be launching my first online (mini) class.  I've wanted to do something like this for a very long time.  I love teaching in person so I figured why not share my teachings online.  The instructions with take you from start to finish of the tag in the photo above.

This class is great for beginners who would like easy step by step instruction as well as the experienced artist who would like a glimpse into my creative process.  Click here and you will be taken to my ETSY shop where you can download the class PDF.

The online class has lots of photos, tips, and tricks!  I have also included four additional variations on the same techniques for inspiration.

I would like to know...if you make altered tags what do you do with them once you are finished?  I like to trade, gift, and display them.  Visit my ETSY page and follow me for future classes and artwork.

100 Painted Faces - #1

I've decided to take on the 100 faces challenge.  It's late in the year so I might not be done by December but that's my goal.

I would like to name her...what do you think of Camilla?  This name means born-free.  I'm really feeling that it suits her.

I took progress shots along the way.

For some reason the flower wasn't doin' it for me so I covered it.

I've already started on my next face along with all the other projects I'm working on.

*Coming Soon* My first online class!

It's not quite finished yet so follow me on Etsy for updates.

Have a wonderful weekend.
