Mixed Media Tags

Mixed Media Tags

I have a few projects going on right now.  These tags have been patiently waiting on my desk for attention.  Hopefully you are able to see through my scribbly sketches.

Mixed Media Tags

I set the timer to 15 minutes for each sketch.  This forced me to put down the first thing that came to mind and then move on.  I plan to add paint so they probably won't look the same once I'm finished.

We are off to a gloomy weekend here so I'm off to watch more Alias on Netflix! :)

New Fashion Illustrations + Goals for February

I recently did a few illustrations for M&M Fashion Bites blog.  Maria and Marina run this blog and are two very stylish girls.  I've been painting a lot lately so it was nice to switch it up for a bit.

This is my first blog collab so I took my time during the drawing process.  I sketched each one two or three times before I was happy.  Pencil on watercolor paper makes for easy shading.  I chose to keep them clean and simple without color.  Can't wait to hang these in white frames very soon.

Since January is coming to a close here are a few of my goals for the coming month.  I plan to take them seriously and assign a date in my planner for each one.  Do have any special goals for February?  Please share!
P.S. I used Canva.com to make my to-do list!

30 Day Doodle Challenge - Final Week

Yay!!! I made it! I actually finished something I started.  It wasn't easy but it was worth it.  Instead of talking about each page I wanted to share what I learned from this challenge.

Click here to see all four weeks.

1.  I waste way too much time on the internet and playing with
my phone (this time will now be spent making art).

2.  With time and patience I can draw just about anything I want.
I noticed after the first week I give up on projects way too soon.

3.  Making a weekly plan each Sunday allowed me to spread out the work load.  I was then able tackle each day as opposed to trying to figure things out last minute.

I feel like I'm ready to move on to my next project whatever that may be.

Until next time...stay warm!

30 Day Doodle Challenge - Week 3

It's week three of my 30 Day Doodle Challenge ya'll!  Please see week 1 & week 2 if you haven't already.  I fell behind a bit but I am determined to complete the 30 days.  It seems like I have different styles of drawing depending on the subject matter.

If I draw from my imagination the lines tend to be more organic and flowing but when I draw from life (or something new) my line work is kinda stiff.  If I can find a way to marry the two and I think I will be INVINCIBLE! LOL, just kidding.  But seriously, this challenge is really opening my eyes about my personal drawing style and its a good thing.

Do you have different drawing styles?

30 Day Doodle Challenge Week 3

#15 - Tree of Life drawing sat for two days because I wasn't sure what to do.  It took me 3hrs to finish and it one of my favorites.

#16 - Oak leaf...can't believe it's fall already.

#17 - This page is dedicated to Georgia O'keeffe

30 Day Doodle Challenge Week 3

#18 - I was drained during this session but I kept pushing myself.

#19 - I love antlers!

#20 - Hand traced drawing with lace texture.

#21 - My first shot at a Mandala - yeah, I need more practice.

Thanks for spending a bit of your day with me!

7. Go back and erase some of the shaded areas on the handle to indicate where the light hits.

I wanted to share a short how-to-draw with you.  I need your opinion.  Should this post have written instructions? (I have updated this post with a few written instructions - thanks for your feedback).
I want to start a drawing series so please let me know!

30 Day Doodle Challenge - Week 2

It's my second week of the 30 Day Doodle Challenge I started last week.  If you didn't see my first post please click here.  I'm finding it a bit easier to sketch each day.  Having my drawing pad out and open all the time reminds me to get at least 20 mins in.

Top left #8 - This drawing is a mix of my imagination and real objects.

Top right #9 - My fav type of shoes are flats.  This sketch was inspired by a blogger I follow.
Click here to find her (The Ivory Lane).

Bottom left #10 - To be honest I was having a creative block so I just doodled my fav flower - poppies.

#11 - Yeah, so I don't normally draw celebs but this is supposed to be Kerry Washington.  I struggled with this one but I still like the face (even though it doesn't look like her)!

#12 - I don't think I've ever drawn fairy wings but now I want to draw them all the time.

#13 - Fun exercise for layering my drawings.

#14 - I guess dandelions are considered weeds but I love them.

Next month I will start sending out a monthly newsletter!  To be added to my mailing list please sign up in the sidebar.  My newsletters will include extra mixed media tips, a heads up on future posts, and exclusive tutorials.  I would love it if you joined me!

30 Day Doodle Challenge - Week 1 Results

Have you seen this challenge?  I found it over on Pinterest.  This 30 day doodle challenge was created by Cate Edwards.  Click her name to visit her flickr page and see her amazing works.

I'm a week in and I wanted to share my progress.  Last month's challenge didn't go as well as I hoped but this month I have a weekly plan and I'm sticking to it.  I know I have at least 20 min to sketch so I turn off the TV and 20 mins quickly becomes and hour.

#1 - The drawing took me a lot longer than 20 mins because I used my large newsprint pad.

#2 - I had fun with the steam.  I wasn't even sure how to draw it but the more I experimented the closer I got to this organic shape.

#3 - This girl is based off of a Picasso drawing.

#4 - I can't say that I've ever drawn a cat in detail but I LOVE how she came out!

#5 - The cubes are a good way to warm up if you haven't drawn in a while.

#6 - Seashell from summer vacation.

#7 - Much like the cubes, the loops are good for loosening up.

If you have done this challenge or plan to do it please let me know in the comments.

Drawing in Nature

I have been drawing and painting a lot the past few days.  I'm trying to get some cards ready to post to my ETSY very soon.  I haven't had lots of luck on ETSY so we shall see!  If anyone has a shop and can pass on some good advise on selling please do.

I've been drawing faces for the 29 FACES in Feb challenge and I love the results so far.  I post more often on my Instagram so if you want to see more you can follow me there.  She's not done yet...I need to fix some lines and paint.

This is the last page of my chipboard journal I bought a while back.  Can't believe I actually completed it.  The last two pages are my favorite.  I'm going to head to the craft store today to look for another journal!

Moleskine Monday - A Birds Eye View

This is the first MM post for 2014!  I'm about halfway through my Moleskine and I can't wait to share more in the upcoming year.  I feel like I'm definitely going in a new direction.  Last year I was doing a lot more card making.  And since I started this journal I have painted and sketched more than I have in years.

Moleskine Art Journal page

This is one my favorite pages so far.
My journal is a narrow rectangle so it's not that
easy to work with but the challenge is well worth it.

Art Journal Share - Legs For Days

I've been gaining a bit of weight lately.  It all starts in the hips (well, it starts at the table!).  I'm always examining my legs for changes.  Did I lose weight?  Did I gain weight?  Was that there yesterday?!?  I got a new pair of running shoes for Christmas (thank you Lord) and I ran for the first time in months on Saturday.  I was sore by the end of the night but I felt great.  Even though its freezing today I plan to bundle up and get out there.  I'm working on balancing food and exercise.

I've been drawing a lot of basic anatomy lately.  Drawing legs are tricky but I found lots of tips and tricks on Pinterest.  I am blessed to be able to walk, run, and exercise.

My legs are strong and will take me far.

Is there a part of your body you pick at?  Think of what positive things that part of your body can do!  Does it help you create?  At times it's easier to find the negatives but with effort maybe we can cancel them out.

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run,
and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31

Have a happy new year!!!

Moleskine Monday - OOTD

Happy Monday,
I hope you all had a great weekend.  So, this is my second to last Moleskine post for this year.  I do plan to carry this series into the new year as I am in the middle of my journal right now.

While I was making this page I thought about positive emotions and thoughts I could "wear" like an outfit.  Today, I choose peace.  Life is so busy right now due to the holidays and my move.  Staying calm and peaceful is the best thing I can do.

Which one would you wear today?

I shared a short process video on Instagram via Flipagram.

Moleskine Monday & Christmas Wish List 2013

I could sail a boat before I could drive and I think that's why boats appear in my work again and again.  When I was little we  spent most weekends at the beach in the ocean.

My dad taught me how to sail and drive a motor boat.  Those were some of the best memories I had as a child.

One of my goals for 2014 is to get back on the water.  I haven't been to the beach in at least five years (way too long).

I hope you are inspired by this post.  I'm always in need of inspiration for my journal and Pinterest helps me do just that.

I found this drawing prompt on Pikaland.com and thought I would share it with you all!  Amy has a list of 100 things to draw and observe.

I plan on using this list in my upcoming pages.  If you have time please head over and check out her site.

“For whatever we lose (like a you or a me), It's always our self we find in the sea.”

I wanted to share a few items I have on my wish list for Christmas!
Not all the items are exactly new but I still want them.
